What Thaw is
A service that receives, reads, files and organizes documents you choose to send it, and describes what those documents say. It is not legal, tax, medical or financial advice. Every deadline, amount or instruction it shows is "based on your document"; the document and the official source are the authority.
Reading and answers are produced by Thaw's AI, which runs on a large language model from Anthropic through its API. Your documents are not used to train models. The provider may change; this page will say so when it does.
You can connect an assistant of your own (Claude, ChatGPT or another app that speaks the same protocol) from Settings. What it does through Thaw is done as you: it asks you before changing anything, every change it makes is in your audit log, and what it asks for goes to its provider under that provider's terms. You can end the connection at any time.
Your documents
They are yours. You grant Thaw only the rights needed to store, read, index and display them to you and to people you invite. You can export or delete them at any time.
Your part
Send only documents you have the right to store. Keep your sign-in methods to yourself. Do not use Thaw to store or share material that is unlawful.
Paying
A paid plan starts the moment you choose it and is billed monthly or yearly through Stripe. If it is not for you, write to hello@thawed.app within 30 days of the first payment and we refund it in full. You can cancel at any time from Settings: the plan runs to the end of what you paid for, and nothing is deleted.
Fair use
Paid plans have no limit on documents, storage or questions, and nothing that arrives from now on is counted against you. To keep the service sustainable, each carries a fair-use guard per calendar month, set far above what any household does: Personal, 1,000 documents read in full and 2,000 questions; Family, 1,500 and 3,000; Business, 3,000 and 5,000. Above the guard nothing stops: documents are still read in full and Ask keeps answering. At twice it we email you. The free plan keeps up to 250 documents, understands 25 of them in full, and includes ten questions.
Catching up
The paper from before Thaw is read with catch-up credits. That is everything brought in from another system (a folder, an export, a mailbox, a drive), and any document dated before the first day of the month your account was made, however it arrives. A paid plan includes a pool of them, refilled to its allowance once a year of the plan: Personal 350, Family 500, Business 1,600. One credit reads one document of up to twenty pages, and one more for each further twenty. A credit is taken when the reading starts; a reading that fails, or a copy of a document already on file, takes none. Packs of 100, 500 or 1,000 can be bought at any time and never expire. Past the pool nothing is refused: a document is kept, searchable by its words, and read in full when you open it, which takes no credit. The free plan has no credits; its 25 documents are read the same way whatever their date.
While Thaw is new
The service is under active development. Features change, sometimes daily. We aim for no data loss and no downtime that matters, and we cannot promise either yet.
Ending
You can stop at any time by exporting and deleting your account. We can end access for misuse, with notice and an export window except where the misuse makes that unreasonable.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, Thaw is provided as is, and our liability is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before a claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited.
