No. Sign up with your name and email and the free plan applies straight away, for as long as you like. A card is asked for only when you choose a paid plan.

The most recent, spread across the folders they arrived in, because recent documents are the ones with something still to do and folders are how people already sort their own paper. You can point Thaw at any document yourself as well. The 25 is a total for the free plan and does not refill each month.

Thaw keeps the first 250 and tells you how many are waiting: 'Thaw kept 250 of your 1,000 documents. The other 750 are ready to import whenever you are.' Nothing is deleted and nothing is turned away for good. Move up and the rest come in.

Sorted means Thaw knows what a document is, who it concerns and its main date, which is enough to show what you have and what is missing. Understood means every fact and date pulled out, each date turned into an item with what to do, and the document ready for Ask.

Only catching up. On a paid plan there is no limit on documents, storage or questions, and what arrives from now on is never counted. The paper from before Thaw is understood with catch-up credits: 350 a year on Personal, 500 on Family, 1,600 on Business, one for each document of up to twenty pages. Past them a document is still kept and searchable, and understood in full the moment you open it, which uses no credit. Packs of 100, 500 or 1,000 are there when a big box needs more, and they never expire. The terms carry a fair-use clause against abuse, set far above anything a household reaches, and even there every document is still understood in full and Ask keeps answering.

Anything you bring in from somewhere else: a folder, an Evernote or paperless export, a mailbox, a Drive. And a document dated before the month you joined, however it arrives, because a box of old paper photographed one evening is catching up too. Thaw decides from the document itself, and you are never asked.

On every plan, Free included, Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor can look things up: search, read a document, see what is due and what is missing. On a paid plan it can also do what you would do by hand: mark a bill handled, refile a document, fix a fact, set a reminder, save a note, make a link for your CPA. It asks you before changing anything, and identifying numbers reach it only when you have allowed changes.

Never. Thaw sees a document to file it and to answer your questions, and identifying numbers are blanked before any page is indexed. The security page has the rest.

Any time, from Settings. Cancelling a paid plan keeps every document and drops the account to Free once it fits Free's 250 documents; until then it stays on the paid plan, or you export and delete.
